Resource Management in Enterprise Architect
Managing the allocation of resources for a project is an important task. Enterprise Architect enables the Project Manager or Development Manager to assign resources directly to model elements, all within Enterprise Architect itself. This facility can be used in conjunction with normal project management tools to provide comprehensive tracking of development effort and progress.
How you allocate resources to your model is at your discretion – some managers might assign developers to Use Cases and track their progress against these. Others might use classes or components. Others might use all three.
The first step is to record your resources information: go to Settings | People, then select the Resources tab and fill out the required fields.
Once you have defined your resources, you can assign the resources to your model elements. To do this, select View | Project Management; this displays the Project Management window showing the Resource Allocation tab.
If the window does not display as shown, click on the Show/Hide Properties icon on the Project Management window tool bar.
Click on the required element in the Project Browser or diagram, and then complete the resource details on the Resource Allocation tab. Click the Save icon on the Project Management window toolbar. To add another resource, click the New icon.
After you have assigned your resources to your model elements, you can run a Resource Allocation report to track the progress that has been made on your project, who has been assigned to a specific task, and more. To do this, go to Project | Documentation | Resource and Task Details.
Tracking resources for the life of your project is an important part of delivering your project on time and on budget. Enterprise Architect supports this by allowing you to assign and track resources at the model element level.
